A message from Robert E. Dunn Jr. Esq., Director of Public Policy, Diocese of Manchester:
On Tuesday (June 30), the NH House of Representatives will be voting on HB 685, a bill that would mandate that all commercial health insurance policies that cover maternity services also cover abortions. HB 685 includes the text of SB 486, which we opposed earlier this session because, among other things, the bill equates abortion with health care and it puts people who are morally opposed to abortion in the Catch 22 of having to pay for abortion coverage if they want to offer or buy commercial health insurance that covers maternity services. A copy of the letter that we sent to the Senate Commerce Committee on SB 486 is here. This will give you background on the issue.
The vote on Tuesday will be on whether the House should concur with the Senate amendment to HB 685. If the House concurs, the bill passes and goes to the Governor. If the House does not concur, the bill dies. We ask that you contact your House members to urge them not to concur with HB 685. You can find contact information for the House members from your district by going here.
Thank you.
